Love the Heights!

We love engagement photography!  It is such a fun time to get to know a couple and to have fun with a shoot.  They are in love and relaxed and looking cute and it is just a fun part of our job!  Mark and Adrienne recently moved here and don’t know the area that well but they wanted something with a lot of color and texture and “cool vibe” so of course we suggested the heights and it worked out perfectly!  We even timed it perfectly to get a train in the background!

eShoot at A&M

Kerry and James met us at the bluebonnets fields at Old Baylor near Brenham for a few shots before heading over to A&M. Deb, Kerry, and James enjoyed showing me around campus and reminiscing about their time at A&M. We had some phenomenal light to work with at the Century Tree. I’d never seen the Century Tree before, and it is quite something. We had a lot of fun with Kerry and James and we’re looking forward to being their wedding photographers this summer. Deb and I went over to Zapatos for some nachos after the shoot, although we weren’t up to splitting the full trashcan lid order by ourselves!

Do you like me? Check yes or no.

What a fun couple!  One of our favorite things about our job as wedding photographers is that we get to work with people that we would want to hang out with anyway.  Kelly & Jeff and so cute and in love and fun to be around.  They actually met in grade school where they were each others first boyfriend and girlfriend.  Kelly said she remembers passing a note down to Jeff that said, “Do you like me?  Check yes or no.”  I love that!  They went their separate ways for years after that but met again in college and now they are getting married!

a downtown shoot . . . downtown katy that is

we had a great time with these guys and their pups!  dogs are always an interesting variable to add to a shoot but these 2 were very well behaved and even posed for their pictures.  we started the shoot at on old train car in downtown katy and then made our way down the tracks to explore and the great colors and textures that this setting had to offer.  like most of our couples josh and jess showed up saying they weren’t “good at having their pictures taken,” but they loosened up quickly and really let their personalities show.  we are looking forward to shooting their wedding in a couple of months in beeville!

Kathy and Scott

So, evidently Houston does get some winter after all! We’d already had to reschedule Kathy and Scott’s engagement photography shoot once due to winter weather, and after the snow last weekend we were afraid we would have to reschedule again. Saturday was sunny, but a little cold and windy. We decided we needed to make the most of the sunshine we had, in spite of the cold (and in spite of missing the Alabama-Florida game!) We met downtown at tranquility park to shoot in the shadow of the downtown Houston skyline. After shooting in several different spots in the park, we hopped in Scott’s car to cruise around downtown looking for other cool spots. This was a good plan in that it enabled us to find a lot of diverse spots to shoot, and also in that it enabled us to warm up after each location! We ended up at the bar at Sambuca, where we noticed their awesome red velour curtain onstage. We had to try a few shots in front of it too. They might be some of my favorite shots all year! Anyway, we had a lot of fun bumming around Houston searching out cool spots to shoot, even if Scott missed most of the game.

A Shoot with a View

We met Tina and Paul at a park off Allen Parkway just West of downtown for their engagement photography shoot. This park is a special place for Tina and Paul as they used to live nearby and often walked together in the park in the shadow of the downtown Houston skyline. I don’t think Tina hired us just because Deb’s also an Aggie, but I’m sure it didn’t hurt; you know how those Aggies are! We had a lot of fun working our way up and down the bayou with Tina and Paul finding different spots to shoot.

Rock and Roll

We met Angela at the Houston Wedding Showcase last month and I knew from our first conversation that I wanted to shoot her wedding.  Wedding photography is totally subjective and couples really have to look for a photographer that fits their style.  Likewise, it is important to us to seek out couples that fit our style and make our job fun!  Angela and Kevin definitely made our job fun last weekend.   Their reception will be at the House of Blues downtown so we were able to do their engagement photos there and it was one of the coolest venues we have shot in Houston.  They even let us shoot down in the foundation room.  When we walked in, Angela saw us react to how cool the room was and said, “see, fun for us and fun for you!”  I couldn’t agree more!  We are really looking forward to this wedding in the spring!

a to z

someone asked us recently what our favorite thing to shoot was and i really had to think about the answer.  i really wanted to say that i love everything that we do becasue that is the honest truth but that sounds like a fake answer so when push came to shove, and i had to pick one favorite type of shoot, it was engagements.  i love meeting a couple out at one of their favorite places and hanging out for an hour or two while we shoot some photos.  there is no stress, the couple looks cute, they are totally in to one another, and you really get to see their personalities come out.  it is just fun!  angie and zach were the epitome of that.  they used to live downtown so discovery green is one of their favorite spots.  they chose great colors and angie had her makeup done that afternoon (girls, you will never regret getting your makeup done for a photo shoot!) and they were certainly in love with each other!  at the end of the shoot they changed into their super hero tshirts just to get  fun shot.  apparently zach earned the title captain a for making all a’s in law school.  so fun!  we are looking forward to photographing their wedding next spring!

Heather & Jeremy

We met Heather and Jeremy downtown at Discovery Green for their engagement photography shoot, and I think they laughed through almost the whole shoot. These two were so into each other that they hardly seemed to notice us, which is cool because we’d rather take pictures of them having fun together than be too posey-posey anyway. Heather and Jeremy are our first (of many) couples from the Houston Wedding Showcase. We’re certain that we’ll have as much fun doing their wedding photography as we did their engagements.

just like in the movies . . .

we had such a fun shoot with lauren and austin!  the day before the shoot lauren called and said “um, would it be okay if we brought a tandem bike to the shoot tomorrow?”  of course!  then they showed up with balloons and flowers and a bike and adorable outfits!  these two were so much fun and just a pleasure to be around.  i think lauren has such an audrey hepburn-ness about her, don’t you?
