We love engagement photography! It is such a fun time to get to know a couple and to have fun with a shoot. They are in love and relaxed and looking cute and it is just a fun part of our job! Mark and Adrienne recently moved here and don’t know the area that well but they wanted something with a lot of color and texture and “cool vibe” so of course we suggested the heights and it worked out perfectly! We even timed it perfectly to get a train in the background!

Jenina & Chad were a lot of fun to work with. It is always a pleasure to photograph couples with a good sense of humor and such sweet families – makes our job so much fun! we had such a good time shooting the wedding photography for danielle & joey! danielle’s family is originally from cuba and i have to say in the most fun way possible, it was kind of like shooting my big fat cuban wedding! ALL the family was there and they had the best time celebrating this young love! the ceremony was held at st. rose of lima catholic church and the reception was at the plaza downtown. we made a quick stop at discovery green on the way over to get some fun shots with the wedding party. i don’t think i have ever seen a dance floor more packed at the end of a reception so i’m pretty sure a good time was had by all! congratualtions danielle & joey! we wish you the very best!

moving back to houston has been such a good thing for our family and for our business. one of the really fun aspects of being back is that we get to work with old friends and we love it! carrie and i went to jr. high and high school together and played on the basketball team together and when she got married a couple of weeks ago, we got to be her wedding photographers! in fact, one of our basket coaches performed the ceremony. so fun! carrie & greg had such a beautiful ceremony & reception at second baptist church and after it was all over, we went over to the omni and took some shots of just the newlyweds! congratulations you two!

Kathy & Scott

Not to sound like a broken record, but we LOVED being the wedding photographers for Kathy & Scott. I know we say that every time but we love our job and we love the people we get to work with! We started the day at Hotel Derek with the girls where they had their hair and make-up done by the team at Your Beautiful Face. Then we headed to St. Michael Catholic Church for the ceremony. The reception was back at Hotel Derek where the decor was put together by Darryl & Co. and it looked stunning as usual! The day went so smoothly thanks to the hard work of Kathy’s wedding coordinator Valerie Eissler from Belle of the Ball. Kathy & Scott enjoyed themselves and each other and every minute of their wedding day! That is what we love to see and love to capture as it all goes by so fast! Congrats Kathy & Scott! We are pumped for you guys and hope you have a blast in your marriage!

First Year Portrait Packages

MD Turner Photography is proud to announce that we are about to make a new addition to our family! Our daughter is due to be born in about six weeks and we could not be more excited! In honor of her arrival, we would are rolling out a new baby portrait package. A single portrait shoot is regularly $250 but when you book 4 or more sessions for your upcoming little one they will be available at $200 each. This can include maternity, newborn, 3 month, 6 month, 9 month, 12 month, or any combination you’d like. These sessions include a one hour sitting on location with an online slideshow and a cd of high resolution images for you to keep! This means you can do as much printing of your own as you would like! This is a great deal, saving you at least $200 and would make a great gift for any new mom to be! One of our greatest pleasures as photographers is getting to see your little ones grow up! They grow so fast! Just look!

We recently had the privilege of shooting the wedding photography for Lauren & Ronny at the lovely Briscoe Manor in Richmond, Texas! Lauren and Ronny met in Germany where Lauren lived and worked as au pair for a couple of years after college. It was so fun to watch a group of Texans and a group of Germans come together to celebrate this love! Congratulations guys! We hope you have as much fun in your marriage as you did at your wedding!

katherine & caleb are two of those people that you spend time with and you just think to yourself “these two are good for one another!” you can just tell that they balance each other well. for example, at their engagement shoot, katherine was very classy and proper as she usually is but when caleb decided that he wanted the last shot to be one of him jumping through the fountain at the botanical gardens, she just smiled and said, “whatever you want to do honey!” i loved it! katherine & caleb were married at second baptist church and then held their reception at the junior league. from start to finish they and their families were pleasure to work with. congratulations you two!

Elise Senior Portraits

We don’t do senior portraits very often, but this shoot got us thinking that maybe we should! We had a blast with Elise and her mom down at Discovery Green, and then they met us in Brenham the next day in between bluebonnet shoots. Elise is hilarious and a joy to be around. We should do this more often!

Sandra McCracken Album Release Concert

I shot a little bit at the Sandra McCracken album release concert at Holy Trinity Anglican Church last week. Sandra has long been one of my favorite female artists, and I highly recommend her to everyone. Sandra’s albums are a staple in the playlist here at the studio. I’ve been listening to her new album, In Feast or Fallow, since the show last Wednesday, and I already love it as much as her other records. I feel like the arrangements on the new album really highlight the power of her lyrics and vocals.

Sandra married Derek Webb of Caedmon’s Call several years ago, and they play together sometimes. At this show, Derek played several songs with Sandra, and Danielle Young and Todd Bragg from Caedmon’s played with Sandra as well. At one point, Cliff Young stole the mic from Sandra and Caedmon’s completely hijacked the show to play a few songs from their upcoming album, much to the audiences delight. Caedmon’s Call is a fantastic band and I highly recommend their music to everyone as well. Share the Well is my favorite of their albums.

They had Todd in a dark corner, I really had to dig to expose him at all. Sorry for the noise, this was ISO 6400, and I still had to brighten it a bit.

Caedmon’s Banter. If music hadn’t worked out so well they could’ve morphed the band into a standup act.

I shot this with a 10 second shutter and stopped to F8 to try to expose the cross in the back and get some detail in the room. I particularly Enjoy Todd’s Face blur.

This is a 1 second shutter zooming in while the shutter is open, a technique I first heard about from Stacy Pearsall. Most of the time it just looks weird, but I like the Derek Ghost image in this one.

Again, 1 second shutter zoom in. I don’t think I zoomed in from as far on this one, hence the slightly larger Sandra ghost. I suppose you could do the same thing in post, but its more fun this way.

Derek and Sandra both sing with their eyes closed a lot. Not something you’d really notice unless you were taking pictures, unless you’re more observant than me.
